Personal History

Cheryl Sterling is a resident of Missouri City for 26 years, a retired educator where she has worked for over four decades. She has always had a passion for serving students and the community local and internationally. She was one of the founders in establishing the first Community College in the Middle East. She attended Texas Woman’s and Texas Southern Universities earning degrees in Psychology, Guidance and Counseling and Educational Leadership and Counseling.

Sterling has been successful in planning and managing finances of substantial size and complexity. She established partnership initiatives with Citi Bank, Walmart, Houston Texans, Bill and Melinda Gates, Strake and Pioneer Foundations and many of the ISD schools, social agencies in Houston and Fort Bend Counties. Ministers of Education, Ministers of Economic Development, Ministers of Labor and many other initiatives locally and globally. She is a motivational team-builder that will inspire mutual trust in both the council and the communities, she is trusting, genuine and sincere. Her creative and innovative leadership skills will bring a wealth of executive experience that will provide greater accomplishments to the Missouri City, City Council. Her engaging presence and ability engenders the kind of leadership that will foster educational partnerships and promote business and economic development. Her leadership skills are one that will empower the council to be the most relevant and essential council in city government.

Sterling great sense of humor coupled with excellent listening skills as a Psychotherapist will help build consensus and appreciate differences of opinions but also helps in forging synthesis from divergent views.
